My Areas Of Expertise

1

Anxiety

If you are struggling with anxiety, whether this is general anxiety or diagnosed anxiety disorders such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I can help.

Together we can look at some of those unhelpful 'what if' thoughts that occur and explore together whether they are actually true.

When you stop and think about it, these 'what if' thoughts occur more than you'd probably like. You might recognise a few of them:

'What if I am late to that social event?' - so you chose not to go.

'What if there are people better suited than me? - so you chose not to apply for that job.

'What if they're not interested?' - so you chose to stay quiet in conversations.

We can also work together to establish new and more balanced coping mechanisms and thought processes so that in the future your anxiety isn't holding you back from things you want to achieve.

2

Trauma

I like to think that trauma that an individual has experienced, if not properly processed afterwards can stay with us in 'internal boxes' which can be used as a safety mechanism.

The downside with this is that whilst it may feel like those boxes are firmly shut, thought or behaviour patterns that might have developed as a result of the trauma can creep out and influence our decision making processes.

In working to help you deal with your trauma, I will first make sure you are in a safe mental space to do so and also make sure that you have processes in place, both before and after a therapy session to help keep you as safe as possible.

When as my client, you feel you are in a place to process these difficult events, we will work through them at a pace which you control in order to reduce the heaviness of those 'internal boxes'.

3

Life Transitions

Sometimes we as people are completely unprepared for a serious life transition or decision which could impact how we live our lives going forward or question the way we've lived our lives up to that point.

Such transitions could include loss of a job, or relationship, a serious health diagnosis or even your children moving out of the family home.

I can provide you with a empathetic space which makes you feel like you are being heard and understood whilst you traverse the changes that might be occurring for you right now.

I can help you explore such questions such as 'What if I had done that differently?' or 'How are things going to be moving forward?' so that you feel more confident in dealing with the future.
